Traditionally in order to use a computer, one would need to purchase a computer, an operating system, antivirus software and a suite of productivity software. In order to keep up with the ever changing software technology and enhancements, the computer needs to be upgraded regularly and this would break the bank.

To complement the si², SabarCompute would enable most of the old computers to run the latest software with little or no upgrade. SabarCompute cleverly emulates the Microsoft® Remote Desktop Connection that would enable any workstation to initiate a session with a terminal server.

Most other companies opt for using Linux to run their business applications but that would be troublesome; the employees need to learn how to use Linux and although the approach is the same as Microsoft® Windows™, the feel of the desktop environment is not the same. Secondly, most people are used to Microsoft® products and introducing them with new software would also increase cost for training and decrease productivity. Let's face it; Microsoft® rules the software industry. In addition to that problem, virtually any device, i.e. printers, plotters, scanners etc. are designed to run under Microsoft® Windows™ and only a handful that actually support Linux.

Our software runs under Linux environment; needs only a small processing power and memory to run. Although our software runs under Linux, we do not use Linux to run applications. Instead, we only use Linux as a Desktop Environment Generator (Graphical User Interface) that would enable the workstation to initiate a session with a terminal server which runs Microsoft® Windows™ and Microsoft® Office. The users would not notice any difference with the existing approach (running the operating system and applications locally in their machines) and thus eliminate the need for training and computer upgrades.

Terminal Servers

For the terminal servers, we will be using Microsoft's latest server operating system; Microsoft® Windows™ 2003 Server. By deploying this operating system, users would experience a faster response in their daily applications; i.e. Microsoft® Words, Excel, etc. despite the fact that the server's processing power is shared among many users. As a matter of fact, they run much faster than they would if run under other operatingsystem (Windows® XP, Windows® 2000, etc).

Corporate email - someone@company.com.my

For those who does not have their email account, could opt for someone@company.com.my (or anything) while paying only the yearly domain registration of RM100 to MYNIC as si² could also act as a mail server.
